I first discovered Hey Sweet via a friend who ordered a mango birthday cake and have had the pleasure of sampling a couple of other cake flavours since. Seasonal ingredients are used where possible to ensure the best flavour experience.

What a spread at @blacklockchops

Those that know me are probably thinking why is a non beef eater in a steak house. Because I'm curious and because catching up with friends is important (Ty @thechinesefoodie). And because when a steakhouse from London makes it's way north, it needs to be good.

Had the pork loin and belly which were both cooked well. I don't normally order pork loin, too much can go wrong with it but decided to trust Blacklock and it came out nicely.

What I really want to sing about are the non proteins (shock!)

Definitely order the broccoli and walnut salad and the kale parmesan. If you've never had raw broccoli or kale, you are honestly missing out on some amazing textures. The freshness of these dishes cut through the richness of the meat. A must have.

Also a big fan of the chop sauce which is a flavoured peppercorn sauce

Finished off with the cheesecake shared between three because when they said it's akin to your Nan's dessert, they weren't kidding

Cannot guarantee the beef status on the sides but honestly, being flexitarian has light rules.

Go visit on a Monday for butcher's prices on steak if that's your thing.

When a climbing trip with friends involves some local culture 😋

1) Gambas a la plancha, aka grilled prawns
Prawns were so fresh and beautifully cooked. The black salt on top was 🤌

2) Salchichas a la cerveza, aka beer sausages
Unfussy where the ingredients speak for themselves. Moreish. Order some bread and cheese too, then eat together

3) Bacalao con gambas croquetas, aka cod and prawn croquettes
Crispiest croquettes and not oily at all. Good filling ratio and nicely seasoned. Must try!

Ad Oseyo has opened its largest store in the UK (s

Ad Oseyo has opened its largest store in the UK (so far!) within Manchester’s Arndale centre. We first heard they were taking over the old H&M site back in January of this year

Oseyo is not new to Manchester, with an established smaller branch which opened in 2019 on Oxford Road not far from one of the the MMU campuses and Oxford Road train station.

Oseyo 오세요 means “Welcome, come in” loosely in Korean. The store specialises in Korean food, household goods and some stationary, but also stocks food from East and South East Asia.

The chain is a partner of H Mart, an Asian American chain which established its first European store in London’s New Malden. H Mart was created in 1982 by Korean expat, Il Yeon Kwon.

There are definitely things here that I would struggle to get elsewhere in Manchester, such as fresh perilla leaves for having with lettuce wraps. There are also two dedicated freezer doors for vegetarian items such as dumplings and ‘beef’ bulgogi.

I was gifted a bag of goodies, as shown, to celebrate the opening of the new store! Queues have massively died down to the point where there were no queues when I visited on a weekend, so now’s the time to go visit!

If Manchester is a bit far for you, Oseyo are also due to open stores in Birmingham and Sheffield at some point (according to their website)

Hong Kong is a gastro dream for me and it's impossible to eat everything I want to.

I have such a sweet tooth but sweet as in not too sweet. The highest accolade a dessert can ever get in East and South East Asian countries. IFYKYK

Flew back into Manchester on a weekday afternoon, absolutely ravenous for some scran and then remembered that Nell's does a weekday deal! Between 12 and 4pm, 14" pizzas priced £13.50 and under are £7.77. (You can pay an extra £2.22 for the other flavours!)

1) 🍕 Normally I can't finish one solo, but I just about finished one this time. Sis and I ordered a pizza each and had 3 slices of each.

2) 🧅😛 Whimsy. Mozzarella, smoked Lancashire cheese, mushrooms, artichoke and red onion, parm, chives. So, so good. Was the favourite for both of us.

3) 🧄💚 Eat Your Greens! Roast garlic cream and smoked Lancashire cheese, topped with seasonal leafy greens and roquito peppers, finished with chilli, evoo & parm. The greens were mostly kale, not sure if they switch this up with what happens to be fresh in the market.
